Chirp, Chirp, Chirp. A regular morning in the peaceful grounds of Ponyville with hustle and bustle of conversation around the stores. Around one of these such stores, was a unassuming turquoise mare who goes by the name Lyra Heartstrings and her wife, Bon-Bon. Over a warm cup of coffee, Lyra is as always rambling on and on to no end about her everlasting desire to understand the human world. For so long she had only been able to see it in the tattered pages of old books borrowed from the Princess of Friendship herself, Twilight Sparkle, but ever since her coronation as the Princess of all of Equestria, her ability to locate books from her waned into a memory from the past. She eventually realised that her desperation for these books only grew more intense by the hour, eventually culminating in her realizing that, in order to get her desires, she would have to go to Twilight herself.

This would be no easy feat however, the castle had security thought to be impenetrable, and there seemed to be no apparent way in, so she would have to be careful, and plan carefully. She gestured to Bon-Bon asking her to come with her into a alleyway, sealed away from the city by darkness and the wretched smell of the dumpsters along the back of the restaurants, the rotting food and the smell was downright putrid, coughing up in disgust at the smell. Eventually they came to a stop at a corner. Lyra said confidently, “Together, we can shock all of Equestria, uncover the truth about humans and finally prove the prophecies from ancient times, to finally learn about this species, and perhaps we can embrace them together. Pegasi, earth ponies and unicorns.” Bon-Bon stood in shock at the sheer absurdity of this plan. With no response, she just sat there, her pupils dilating, with a gentle smack on the ground from a fallen pen. Although downright bewildered, she nodded in agreement as to not disappoint her wife.

As the pair of them trotted back to their seat, Bon-Bon sat there for a few brief moments, almost spilling the coffee as she took a sip. She sat there and thought about how insane this idea was, but yet, she felt a commitment to do it. She had to help her. But at what cost?

As the pair walked by the climbing store, the two made a turn and went inside, the walls were covered in equipment, there was almost a gradient in the colors, a gradient of a shining sunset over the mountains. In spite of that, the pair only stopped for a brief moment, with a list in hand, they picked out the equipment they needed from the array. Cautiously, the cashier looked suspiciously at the two mares, “Why are these two mares buying so much climbing gear?” He reflected for a minute, before assuming that paranoia and skepticism had gotten the best of him once again. Gleefully, The two mares walked out of the store together, climbing gear in hoofs.

They finally stepped through the door frame to their home. They knew they had to do something about the Royal Guards, both within and outside of the marble monolithic castle that stood above, standing as the pride of Equestria on the mountain top. Those royal guards stood still as stone statues guarding the massive gates to the Princess of Friendship. She was the mare who saved Equestria from Queen Chrysalis’ tyranny, The destruction of harmony by Discord, just to name a few, not to mention being the element of magic itself.

As the brightest Sun blasted through the window frames, slowly being replaced by a sunset, a union of the Sun and Moon. At long last, eventually being replaced by nothing more than darkness, other than a bright moon, reflecting the sun through the curtains. Shattering through like a prism upon the two mares planning things out on a sheet of paper.

As dawn befell upon Equestrian soil as always, the mares trudged themselves to a mattress like zombified mares from the horror stories they used to read as foals. Hoping and praying to Princess Celestia to wake up at dusk, to make their way through the windy paths, marching through the hills together. Perhaps a sign of mercy from high above, all of that was in the future. Now, it was time to sleep and wait for the time to strike. Right as the sun broke through the windows, their eyes drifted off to the realm of dreams. Luna would watch over them now.

Many hours later, the sounds of the streets fell silent. One by one, everypony went to enter the domain of Luna, a place where one can show respect and adoration to the lunar princess. For Lyra and Bon-Bon however, this merely marked the beginning of a much larger ambition. Under the moonlight, They stepped out of their home, and set off for Canterlot armed with a compass and each other. Trotting towards the east, they encountered lone mares and stallions, beautiful hills and sights that only the untouched vast swathes of Equestrian land could produce. In spite of the many trials the pair faced, through the Everfree forest, Over the rivers and mountains touching the cloud, they eventually reached Canterlot before daybreak. This was the end now, all that was left was to perform the infiltration that they had been working on for so long.

Walking as inconspicuously as they could, trying to hide behind other mares, they made it through the city gates. Thinking quickly, Lyra went with Bon-Bon, leaving a decoy sword on the ground to allow the royal guards to investigate. “Hopefully that will keep them occupied” Bon-Bon whispered cautiously into Lyra's’ Ear. Using the equipment in their possession, they hurriedly climbed up the delicate marble walls under the cover of the darkness. Eventually after long last, coming into an open window.

Meanwhile, The guards had locked down the city in fear of the sword, it looked alien, abstract, fear swept through the city. Initially this instilled fear and hesitation in the duo, who were now inside the castle, the curtains were a brilliant velvet purple, as if it were the Princess’ mane instilled into a curtain. But there was no time for staring at the beauty of the interior and how carefully organized the delicate array of artifacts from Equestrias’ founding had been laid out. Together, the pair explored the castle for many minutes, fear and tension slowly rising as the fear of getting caught became more insurmountable and paralyzing by the second.

However, after a long while, they found exactly what they wanted, a dusty old machine with a insignia of a sunset. The pair carefully turned it on, but, to their agony and torment, it failed to work. As a final desperate act, they tried to replace the insignia with one of the many books about humans that had been found laying around the castle grounds.

For the final time, Lyra said goodbye to Bon-Bon and said “I wish you could come with me, but don't worry, I shall come back no matter where this machine takes me.”

And Lyra stepped through the machine.
