The last war played again

He screamed and nearly punched the mirror in shock but was blocked by Foster. “Charles are you alright? Don’t tell me your reflection decided to leave ya.”

“Uh..It was nothing. I thought I saw a fly.”

“So you screamed nearly waking everyone up? Didn’t you tell me last night that the Scots had no fears?”
Forsmith stared back at the mirror and saw only him and his old friend or young friend Foster who at the moment tapped on Forsmith’s shoulder. Turning back he smiled and gave Foster a bear hug embracing the sight of his friend. “It’s nothing it’s just nice to see you again. After all these years.”

“Forsmith?”

“I just woke up from a nightmare. A terrible nightmare and all I want is to embrace the real world.”

“Oh..I don’t mean to disappoint you but there is not much you can do here. Being here in West Germany waiting for the soviets to kill us.”

Forsmith smiled letting go of Foster and went to his chest to see all of his items was there. Even his grandfather’s pocket watch and the same switchblade he used to stab Sombra. He stared seeing that all of his former faded stuff was in good condition including the knife’s inscription “Never go to hell alone.” He slowly put on his old uniform enjoying feeling his hair and staring at possessions which details even he forgot about. Then just as he put his watch his ears drummed and his eyes widen from the alarm. The entire room flashed to red and the other pilots jumped out upon the change of scenery. A robotic voice came over the intercoms causing everyone inside to move out “Attack Warning Red.” Forsmith ran out with foster as memories came back of the day everything changed. When the world burned.

He thought it can’t be. He just woke up, got a second chance now he was back just to suffer again. His stomach shrank and his mind became fire as he stared and listened to the alarms and red flashes. He remembered everything that happened afterwards of what would happen next. The collective starvation and death of Earth itself. Was he doomed to repeat it? It can’t be? He closed his eyes and placed his hands on his ears screaming no. He didn’t want to go through it again. He was not going to face this day again!

Yet there he was. His eyes opened and the flashes continued as long with the robotic voice “attack warning red.” He saw from the opposite side Sombra shaking his head in shame at Forsmith’s act of fear. Before Sombra could say anything Foster ran back and gestured Forsmith to get up. “What the hell are you doing? The Russians are attacking us.” Forsmith slowly got up and ran towards his friends and headed outside to the airstrip. Jets screamed with fiery engines and everyone around ran as if it was the end of the world. Well only Forsmith knew that it was the end of the world. Everyone there knew that fate of the world. That they were the last Generation and that the attack on the Russians was going to be the last. Forsmith remembered why he followed along. Why he and still now ran towards his jet like he did before and took off into the sky.
“They are all dead. But they acted as they were supposed to. You did the same.” Said the tyrant with no concern of the situation at hand.

“But they are all dead. Foster will die to.”

“They are soldiers. That is what they do. They die. I don’t see why you are fighting me on this. You know this is the truth.

“Are you blind? They are human beings. The ones you enslaved are living creatures beyond their purpose.”

“Forsmith what are you doing? It’s now or never.”
“Oh sorry. It’s that…I’m still thinking about my nightmare.”
“If we don’t do something than the nightmare will become real.”
“Nightmare…real?”

Forsmith slapped himself and thought how he didn’t think of it before. He can stop the war and save Foster’s life. He remembered at that moment a conversation with his grandfather about how people choose their fates and no one else. And if that was true than that means that he could stop the war. He figured that he was given a rare opportunity to change the unchangeable. To alter the very course of history and who was he to waste it. He smirked and told Foster that he doesn’t know what is going on but he was going to make everything better. Just as they were flying their jets to confront the Russian armies who for decades had been planning for this day.

A few moments passed and the cloudy skies of Western Europe turned dark with enemy aircraft flying in massive formations. Forsmith, Foster and the other members of the Royal Air Force did not stir or flee at the sight. As both sides stared at each other Forsmith made a promise to Loma glass that he won’t let Foster die. He will prove that life wasn’t just their purpose. To him it wasn’t about the Stars and Stripes, Union Jack or Hammer and Sickle. This was all about saving life itself and their liberty to live. This was about making his parents proud, Foster proud and Loma glass proud. He was going to show those on all sides this day that life was not to be controlled but to be embraced. Sombra and all of his kind will be proven wrong this day.

The silence which would never repeat again broke when a missile was fired from the ground. No one knew where it came from but it caused both east and west to begin their attacks on each other. Forsmith and foster stayed close making sure that neither got shot down. Like deja vu Forsmith could remember the sights, smells and even the motions he made in his jet. In the first few minutes he made efforts to protect his friends and attacking the enemy then they got too ambitions. He could still feel the presence of the tyrant watching close by in shame and anxiously waiting for what to happen next. For a moment Forsmith was distracted to allow some bullets to strike his cockpit. His jet would’ve been blown to bits had Foster did not appear behind and shot down the enemy jet. “I think someone owes me a beer.”
